The Adventures of Dooley and Me - Part 11
The Adventures of Dooley and Me - Part 11
Children, Dogs, Grumpy Old Men, and Home …
Why does the smallest dog bark the loudest? Why are some dogs friendly and some aren’t? Why do some bite and growl while some just want to be loved and petted? Why are some people the same way?
Sweet dogs, Tired children, and Grumpy Old men. The world is full of all of them. And you could swap the adjectives around any way you want, it’s really all the same, Dogs can be tired, children can be sweet, and Lord knows we all can be Grumpy. There are all kinds out there in the world. But something Dooley and Me are learning, People in the world have good days and bad, regardless of where you are or what you’re doing. Some days I feel sociable and some days I don’t. Here are some people I met on my more sociable days.
There’s Bruno, Maitre'd at the La Piazza del Villagio restaurant, from the “heel” part of Italy. He’s getting his United States citizenship in 4 days. He’s been in Telluride for 23 years. I asked him why now?
He replied: “Cause my Mama and Papa are getting old, and for the last ten years I’ve had a Green card, and they’ve been changing the laws and now I’m afraid if I leave, they won’t let me come back. So, I join America, so I can travel safely and see my Mama and Papa.”
He continued: “I found my American Dream here, but I haven’t been home for 43 years. I need to see my Mama and Papa. I came to the US with a sleeping bag around my waist and 500 dollars. I went everywhere looking for a job, times were tough then.”
When you look at Bruno, (He’s tall, strong, handsome) you can’t help but think “Goodfellas”, but he’s got a heart of gold... and he wants to go home …
Then there’s Julia, from Uzbekistan. She's making money with her recipe website. She makes up recipes and puts them on the internet. She has dual citizenship with the US and Uzbekistan but hasn’t been home for 20 years. They keep changing the laws and if she goes home, she can’t come back... she wants to go home ...
A family from College Station Texas. The kids are VERY excited. The little girl can’t wait to go to Kids Club. Grandma is from Sweden. They were too busy with the excited kids to tell me anymore...
Couple from New York. Teaching their kids to Ice skate. Patience ... and Love …. beautiful ...
And a Dad from Atlanta, with his daughters on a Gondola ride. One daughter is in the Navy. So was Dad. The other daughter is still in school. It’s always nice to talk to folks from Georgia... It reminds me of home ...
It was time for Dooley and Me to go Home …
I hope they don’t change the laws …
