My Cheers
My Cheers
So, … I seem to be starting a lot of posts with: “I walked into a bar the other day” … Apparently that’s not unusual for me, … and truth be told, I’ve probably spent more times in bars than most people, … I’ve already said too much… but …
I walked into a bar the other day … the main difference between this bar and the last one I wrote about is this one’s in my hometown, where I’ve grown up and lived for the past 69 years. Instead of not knowing anyone, I pretty much knew everyone in there!
There’s my favorite bartender, she’s been selling me cocktails and cold ones for 35+ years, she knew what I wanted to drink and eat, next to me was a local celebrity, known for his charitable endeavors, as well as his good barbecue … then a former manager, of a club we used to call the Who’sier-dome, back in the 90’s, and others I’ve known for years, ….
It felt a lot like a Cheers episode, where Norm walks in and everybody says “Norm”! “Sometimes you want to go … Where everybody knows your name!”
I sadly found out that this place was moving locations, out of my neighborhood, … across town … I think they’ve had 2 or 3 different locations in the past several years, this town’s getting bigger, and I don’t want to drive an EXTRA 30 minutes to my “neighborhood Cheers” …
Change is inevitable. people, places, and things, come and go. Maybe another bar will take its place, … maybe not … Cheers is of course a fictional place in a town far away, but it’s very real in a lot of places across this country …
Traveling is great, new places, new people, new adventures, … But Dorothy was right, … when she clicked her heels and said, … “There’s no place like Home” ….
