Father's Day
Father’s Day
I miss my dad, I know a lot of people, my age miss theirs …
If I think way back … I can remember snuggling up in his lap while he’s sitting in his easy chair watching “Gunsmoke”, or “Have Gun Will Travel”. I can feel his day-old beard and smell his breath. It sounds weird … but I knew his breath, it was comforting to me, … it made me feel safe … of course later came growing up, discipline, family interaction, Life …
I remember watching with great interest as my older brother would ask him for a sip of his beer, my dad, thinking my brother wouldn’t have any money, told him a sip would cost him a quarter. My brother would disappear for a few minutes and then reappear with a quarter … This would happen every now and then. And then I wanted to taste Dad’s beer. He told me the same thing … “cost you a quarter”. No way I had that kind of money … oh well. Then one day my brother and I both asked for a sip … my brother gave me a slight punch to get my attention, put his finger to his lips, and told me to follow him … I did, into our parent’s bedroom, and over to dad’s chest of drawers where he left his change … yep … Quarters!
Now, as a parent and grandfather, I have a hard time expressing the Joy and Love I feel, that the next generations bring. I am a proud father, and I Love my kids and their families.
Happy Father’s Day to all…
